It breaks my heart that this is even an issue. Come on world, let’s stand up against Islamophobia and love our Muslim brothers and sisters.

The Dead Tree

(I wrote this a while back, but I was not ready to share it. I am glad to be able to share it with you today.)

Yesterday, during my morning worship I asked God to speak to me. I wanted to know that he loves me and that he has been and is working in my life and that he cares about what I am going through. Right after that I felt like I should open my eyes and I got excited with the possibilities! I thought maybe when I open my eyes there would be an angel waiting for me, Gabriel perhaps, to tell me “Do not be afraid” and that “God has a plan for my life and everything is going to be ok!” So I prepared myself to see the most glorious thing ever!

After a few seconds of preparations, I opened my eyes and what did I see? A dead tree; the same dead tree that has been standing there all winter. Naked and brown and ugly! Dead. I became so frustrated because I really wanted to hear from God. I was so annoyed and upset that I decided that I wasn’t worth His time, He was not going to speak to me, and not to be bothered waiting for something that was foolish and would never happen.

Today I went to the same spot for my morning worship, right in front of the window. Pulled up the stool, got my bible and daily devotional and opened the curtain.

That same dead tree was COVERED in leaves! I could not believe it! Every branch had multiple bunches of leaves on it, and the trees beside it only produced a few leaves on one side. This tree grew faster than the rest because nothing blocks it; it stands directly in the path of the sun. The other ones, although they have started to leaf, do not get the same opportunity to grow so fully, evenly and quickly!

I realized that God does care about me! And even though I feel dead right now, there is hope in my situation, and that hope brings life to my deadness: spring is on the way! If I continue to stand in the path of the Son, He will help my character to grow evenly and fully so I can become more like Him.

For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. James 1:3-4
